I love how Alastair is this cocky, arrogant ass movie star that really has this soft side to him. He and Bethany have an immediate connection that had me rooting for romance at the first drop of hot wax! I was entranced with Black Betty and what made her "Black Betty." Had she been burned one too many times by a Dom and felt the need to hide behind her whips and chains? Was she afraid to let her heart go and give it away to another person? Was her heart black from previous heartache or was it her soul that had turned black from years of a "rough" lifestyle????? Black Betty, AKA Bethany, suckered me in right from the beginning. I wanted her to let Black Betty die and Bethany finally get the happiness that I felt she deserved.
Alastair was another story. At first I thought how deep can this plot really go with a movie star as the bad boy? Aren't all actors wanna be bad boys that will do anything for their next role? I once again misjudged Kelli Maine's ability to connect the reader to her characters. I admired Alastair for the clean slate, non-judge mental, open mindedness that he showed Black Betty. He was suffering from his own demons of trying to fit in Hollywood and not be just another pretty face. What a match made in heaven with these two! My favorite quote from this book was "Two Dom's don't make a right." I thought that was hilarious and love that humor and light hearted word play was utilized in this story where it could have been a supremely dark book diving into the lifestyles of Submissive's and Dom's.
Great job Kelli Maine at making me a believer that not all BDSM books are wanna be 50's. ;) I give this novella 4 stars and can't wait for the next one to be released!!
