Blurb:
When pretend turns to desire, heartbreak is unavoidable.

Sander Chase needs a date for his ex-fiancée's engagement party, but he doesn't have time for a woman in his life. Between working on the TV show Do You Have What It Takes? and his band reforming, he's too busy for a relationship. What he needs is a pretend girlfriend. He thinks he may have found the perfect woman for the job, and the bribe he offers means she's sure to accept.

After losing her job in the film industry, breaking up with her movie star boyfriend, and finding out her mum has dementia, Chloe Butler returned to the UK determined to put her life back together. The last thing she needs is to parade around London on the arm of a celebrity, and after the heartbreak caused by her ex, she swore she'd never again date a star. But when Sander offers her a chance at her dream job, it's not something she can turn down.

As Chloe gets to know Sander she learns he's nothing like her scumbag ex. But she struggles to fight her attraction to him, knowing their relationship is only for show and their separation date is closing in fast.

Ignoring the insane chemistry between them should be easy for Sander, especially since he carries a secret that means there can be no future for them, but the more time he spends with Chloe, the harder it is to keep his hands to himself.

Content Warning: contains more denial than you'll find in a courtroom, more sexual tension than most people could handle, and explosive sex that some readers may find long overdue.

Excerpt:
Chloe Butler’s mouth dropped open. She struggled to remember how to close it as she stared at the man with the expectant expression on his avenging angel face. She couldn’t have heard him right. Sander Chase would never ask someone like her out on a date.

“Excuse me?”

He flashed his Hollywood smile. “Come on. Don’t make a guy ask twice.”

Nope, she’d not misheard him, nor had she gone mad. Months of serving him coffee and this was the first time he’d shown any kind of interest in her.

“I’m sorry.” She retreated a few steps. She couldn’t date a celebrity, not after what happened the last time. She was just beginning to get her life back together. Not to mention the fact her mum needed her around more than ever. “I can’t. Thank you for the offer.”

Chloe tried to smile politely, but it was harder than usual. She turned to head back to the counter to get on with her work. If her boss Richard caught her talking to a celebrity, he’d get the wrong idea and hand her a P45 before she could explain. After all, the coffee shop was a classy place. Not even the press were allowed in.

A large, warm hand ensnared her wrist and drew her to a halt. Electrified jolts shot up her arm from the contact.

“Can’t or don’t want to?”

She turned back to Sander and saw his brow was raised and amusement glittered in his baby blue eyes. Pushy, wasn’t he?

“Don’t want to,” she replied, determined not to give him any hope.

Can’t left wiggle room, and there was definitely no wiggle room. She’d sworn off men after the last one had taken her for a mug.

Her reply seemed to please him. His grin grew huge and her heart sped. She frowned at the reaction and put it down to the stress of the situation. After all, as far as she was concerned, her libido was extinct.

“That’s perfect.”

Was he mad? From her experience, celebrities could be a little…odd. But she’d never met a full-blown lunatic before. “I’m sorry, I don’t know what you mean.”

Why wasn’t she backing away? Better yet, why wasn’t she demanding he let go of her arm? She darted a glance around the coffee shop. Most of the customers’ attention was on their morning papers.

“I don’t need a date. I need a pretend one.”

Hmm, definitely time to call the men in white jackets. Sander had clearly lost his marbles. “I really have to get back to work.”

She couldn’t believe a man who’d been in one of the best male vocal pop groups of all time had lost his mind. Or maybe that’s what the pressure of it did to him. She vaguely recalled the rumors surrounding their split, but hadn’t paid much attention to the international news. At the time she’d been in LA and stupidly in love with a jerk.

Sander released her arm and sighed. “I’m not saying this right, am I?”

He raked a large hand through his golden hair and blew out a breath. She smiled at his exasperation, but still didn’t move away. Chloe shook her head in answer to his question.

“My manager called today.” Sander waved his hand to urge her closer. She obeyed. “He wants to get the group back together.” His hot breath caressed her neck and she shivered. The smell of espresso mingled with his spicy aftershave resurrected those bloody extinct hormones. “One of his conditions is that I attend Paul’s engagement party next Friday to show the world I’m over our…fallout.”

My Review:

Whoa... whoa... whoa!!!!! Can I say I am obsessed with this story???? I read Never Say Never in one sitting... I skipped food, water, neglected my kids... well not really, but you know what I mean ;) ... AH-MAY-ZING!!!!!

Chloe has had to put all of her dreams on hold to care for her mother who has been diagnosed with dementia. She has been through a nightmare secret relationship with a movie star in LA, and lost her dream job as a make-up artist on a movie set. She is now working at a coffee shop and tying to make ends meet to give her mother the care she needs for however long she has left. Chloe has hardened her heart towards men... especially stars... and has directed all of her attention and efforts to getting back into the make-up artistry business. Little does she know that a "pretend" date is about to change all of her ideas and any judgements she has made.

Sander Chase is a HOT former boy band lead singer, and current judge on a talent show. His girlfriend left him for his band mate and friend a few years ago, and he now has to prove that he harbors no ill feelings towards them. His manager is wanting to reunite the band, and part of his requirements is for Sander to attend his former best friend and former girlfriend's engagement party. Sander has decided he MUST take a date in order to survive this night. Problem is Sander has absolutely no time for a relationship or room for a woman in his life. He decides he will get a pretend girlfriend, one with the same views on relationships. He will take her to the party... prove he is over his ex... bada- bing, bada-boom... band is back, he is making music again, and his mission is accomplished. Chloe is the perfect candidate. She acts as if she doesn't even know who he is, could care less if he is a star, and turns him down. WHAT?!?!?! Sander decides Chloe must be the one he plays girlfriend/boyfriend with and makes an offer he knows she will not and cannot refuse.

Chloe of course accepts Sander's offer and they begin their fake "relationship". Problem is Chloe begins to see that Sander is not like her jack ass ex and has not let stardom go to his head. She begins to feel her heart soften and her hormones start to take over her thoughts. Can she do this? Can she pretend that they are lovers and not lose her heart? Is Sander feeling the same way or is this all a game of pretend for him? I literally devoured this story. I was hoping and praying that Chloe and Sander both would lose their hearts to each other and fall in "real" love. I could not put this book down without finding out the answers to all of my burning questions!! I give Never Say Never 5 stars on the knock my socks off scale! This is a MUST read!! Kudos to Aimee Duffy for her brilliant story and her web of emotions that sucked me in!

About me (snooze—can you tell I hate the me stuff? Lol)

For as long as I can remember, I've had a good book in my hands. In primary school I loved Roald Dahl. In high school my English teacher introduced me to Charles Dickens, Stephen King, Jane Austin, Emily Bronte, and Shakespeare. It was then that I discovered my love for romance and I've wanted to pen my own imaginary heroes and heroines for others to enjoy ever since. Only in the last few years was I lucky enough to meet some fabulous and encouraging people to help me gain the skills to make that dream possible.

I live in sunny Scotland in a small town near the Ochils and work nine to five in a solicitors office. In my free time, you'll find me on Facebook, stalking *cough* following friends on Twitter, and may even catch me shoe shopping.

HaPpY ReLeAsE DaY to Scarlett Edwards and her book, Change of Heart!!

Synopsis:
Persevere.

That's how I've gotten through nineteen years of life. It's what I do every single day--no matter how badly the odds are stacked against me.

Persevere, and survive.

Those are my two guiding words. I never knew either of my parents. I have no family and no home. The only person I could ever rely on was myself. In this cruel world, that's about as much as I can ask for.

Love? Hah. Don't talk to me about love. I stopped believing in it the day my first boyfriend ripped out my heart three years ago.

That's why love is the last thing on my mind when I leave a packed college bar with a captivating stranger. Yet everything changes when I'm awakened in the middle of the night by a pounding at the door. Suddenly, an arrangement meant for just one night threatens to become something much deeper.

All expectations are thrown to the wind as I'm tangled in a dangerous world unlike anything I can believe. The man I met has secrets swirling around him like a dark cape. I'm about to become his biggest one...

Author Bio:
I 'm Scarlett Edwards. I'm a full-time student (2nd year, undergrad) and part-time writer. I hope to switch those around soon!

I'm kind of old fashioned. I write all my stories using paper and ink. At the end of the day, I transcribe them on my laptop. It takes a bit longer, but writing in a notebook really focuses my thoughts. I love vintage photography. I have an old-school film camera that was my mom's from before I was born. I use it to take pictures almost every day.

Yours to Savor is the first full book I worked on. It went through six drafts, and took me ten months to complete. In the two months since getting it done, I finished two drafts of brand new stories. I'm getting faster! I love hearing from my readers. I love getting feedback about my books. I'm just getting started, and plan on doing this writing gig for a long, long time.

I take inspiration from all the indie romance authors. Addison Moore, Samantha Young, Colleen Hoover, Jessica Sorensen, and everyone else…. you girls rock!

Extra: Personal Message: "I love hearing from readers! If you read my book and want to share your thoughts, good or bad, email me! Scarlett@ScarlettEdwards.com. I'll be sure to reply!!

Blog Tour: You and Tequila by Crystal Donahue Release Day Blast: The Visitor's Series- Crimson Key by Christy Sloat

  • Blog Tour: You and Tequila by Crystal Donahue
  • Release Day Blast: The Visitor's Series- Crimson Key by Christy Sloat

Today we are welcoming Crystal Donahue and her book You and Tequila to our blog!!

Blurb:
One tequila, two tequila, three tequila… Score!

Cassel Bailey's life hasn't exactly turned out how she planned. Between the tragic death of her parents, a brother that practically despises her, and working her way through nursing school alone, she's learned to stay guarded, relying only on herself and her friends for love and support. Over time they’ve become her surrogate family. So when one drunken night at the bar lands her in bed with her close friend, Will Tanner, it threatens to change their otherwise platonic relationship forever. Life as she knows it suddenly begins spinning out of control as she struggles to understand her conflicted emotions.

Guided by her authoritative best friend, Tina, and her quirky next-door neighbor, Rita, Cassel must decide between fighting to keep her friendship with Will alive, or going with Plan B and risking it all for something more.

Just when she thinks she knows what she wants, Cassel is bullied into caring for a patient that, unbeknownst to her, played an important role in her sad past. The stunning secret this person reveals about her former lover, Dane, threatens to open up previously healed wounds and leads Cassel to question not only the career she loves, but where her heart truly lies. Everything she thought she knew about life, love, and promises is shattered like an empty bottle hitting the floor.

One thing is for certain, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade... when life gives you limes, you grab some salt and a bottle of tequila and learn to take it one shot at a time.

Excerpt:
“So tell me everything, Cass. What exactly happened, from start to finish?”

“Well,” I start with a hesitant sigh, “a bunch of us met at The Broken Tap last night to celebrate Will passing the bar exam and being offered a position at the County Attorney’s Office. At some point Kelsey suggested we all do a round of shots in honor of the occasion.” “Kelsey’s always looking for an excuse to do shots,” interrupts Tina. There’s no love lost between those two and I often have to play referee when they’re in the same vicinity.

Shooting her a dirty look for interjecting, I continue, “Anyway, a few rounds later and everyone’s feeling good, a little too good perhaps. I started teasing Will about having to wear a suit every day, knowing how much he hates them. And he started teasing me about having to give enemas and wipe people’s butts for a living. We were just joking around like usual, but the next thing I know we’re making out in one of the booths in the back.” I stop there, not wanting to admit what comes next.

“So that’s it? You guys just had a drunken make out session at the bar? That isn’t so bad, you can bounce back from that.” Tina shrugs, unimpressed with my sex life yet again.

“Not exactly,” I take another deep breath and continue on, “I suggested we take the show on the road. His place was closer so we ended up there.” “You suggested it? I see,” Tina smirks. We stare at each other for a few seconds before she finally asks the one thing she’s dying to know, “So, how was it?”

Crossing my arms on the table in front of me, I drop my head and let out a muffled groan. Without looking up, I admit,“Honestly, it was the best sex I’ve ever had.”

My Review:

You and Tequila is a charming, sexy story that I thoroughly enjoyed!! I read this book in one sitting because the characters were so endearing I felt like I was in their circle of friends and I had to know how things ended up for them!

Cassel is an ambitious nurse going to grad school with an amazing group of friends. She lost both of her parents when she was younger and she and her brother do not have a close relationship. This makes her grasp onto her friends even more so. She is recovering from an U-G-L-Y breakup from The Asshole himself, as her friend Tina refers to him. Cassel has had to lean on her friends on more than one occasion for love, support, and the necessities that usually come from family. Which explains why when she and the HAWT Will Tanner share a night of passion after one too many tequila shots, she freaks out a little.

When I say Will is a HOTTIE, that is understatement... he is sensitive,  great friend, awesome listener, humorous, just passed his Bar exam and is on his way to becoming a successful lawyer, and is yummyliscious!! Bring on the tequila if that is what it takes to get him naked! LOL! Will has been friends with Cassel since college and they know everything about each other... that is until the tequila showdown! Cassel has to decide does she want Will the friend or Will the sex god that made her scream and squeal like no man ever! Easy choice if you ask me, but considering the amount of pressure Cassel feels to keep her group of friends together, I can see where her doubt stems from.

To make matters worse, just when Cassel thinks she has made her decision on which Will she chooses... Dane The Asshole comes back around. UGH!!! As hot as Dane is, I want Will and Cassel to stomp his butt into the ground and scare him out of town... which I am not disappointed in on one occasion. ;) However much I dislike Dane, Cassel once loved him and an interesting conversation with his mother sends her mind and heart into a spiral of emotions.

I give You and Tequila 4 stars on the knock my socks off scale! I loved this story and instantly fell for Cassel and Will both. I could not put this book down because I HAD to know which Will Cassel would choose. Would she fall for Dane's smooth words, would her sympathy over-rule her true feelings for what she really wanted, would Will wait for her to decide or make a decision himself???? You and Tequila is a MUST read... 1-Click STAT!

Release Day Blast: South of Surrender by Laura Kaye Inger Iverson's Birthday Bash!!!

  • Release Day Blitz: South of Surrender by Laura Kaye
  • Birthday Bash: Happy Birthday Inger Iverson

South of Surrender Release Day Blitz Giveaway

I am thrilled to welcome Chrysander Notos to the world today! Chrys is the hero of South of Surrender, the third book in my Greek-mythology inspired Hearts of the Anemoi series. The Anemoi were wind gods the Greeks associated with controlling the wind, the weather, and the seasons, and as the summer god, Chrys is the hottest of them all! Need more proof? Check out this hot excerpt and the giveaway that follows!

Excerpt:
Unable to resist the draw to her any longer, Chrys claimed her mouth, devouring, searching, taking.

Laney froze, then was right there with him.

Their tongues met, dueled, twirled. He fisted his hand in her hair and guided her, deepening when he wanted, restraining her when he needed.

Her hands slid up his chest toward his neck.

Chrys gasped into the kiss, but fought the reflexive desire to pull away. Instead, he pushed her back one step, then another, until her back encountered the door. He grabbed her arms and pressed them to the surface over her head. The control flooded relief through him and fueled his arousal another notch.

“I want to touch you,” she whispered around a kiss.

His brain scrambled for a moment, and then he wedged his body in tighter, the ridge of his cock coming in snug against her belly. She unleashed a strangled moan as Chrys plundered her mouth, relished her sweet taste, bathed in her life-giving heat.

Good gods, her body was absolutely alive with her arousal. She clenched and unclenched her hands, her arm muscles flexing where he restrained her. Her abdomen writhed against his, creating a maddening friction against his erection. Her thighs shifted and squeezed.

It was only with the barest of restraint that he resisted willing her clothing away, turning her to face the wall, and tugging her hips out so he could bury himself deep.

Lost in the imagery, Chrys didn’t notice the change in her movements until she slowly dragged her injured leg up the outside of his. Her wrists pressed against his hold and a yearning moan worked up her throat. “Chrys,” she whimpered, her thigh moving higher and wrapping around.

His pulse lunged into a sprint. Damnit. He pulled back and stepped away, the phantom feeling of her flesh trapping his spiking fear through him. “I’m sorry,” he said, rubbing his lips, regret a rock in his stomach. He could still feel her, taste her. Making sure she was steady on her feet, he dropped his hands from holding hers.

GIVEAWAY! Win 1 of 5 $50 gift cards to winners’ choice of Amazon/B&N/iTunes!

Blurb:
After years of struggling, Cynthia Blaine is finally getting recognition from Seattle galleries and buyers for her designer jewelry. Her life seems to be on an even keel. Her professional life, that is. Her personal life is less exciting than a cloistered nun’s. After a messy breakup with a man who decided he needed a woman who could help his career more than a mere artist could, she’s steered clear of anyone who could hurt her like that again.

Then Marius Hernandez comes into a gallery where she was working. He’s a successful coffee broker; he’s to-die-for handsome; he’s sexy and charming. And he’s very, very interested in her.

Marius woos her on a sailing trip through the beautiful San Juan Islands during which their romance lights up the summer nights. Soon after they return to Seattle, he leaves on a six-week business trip to Central America, vowing he’ll return to her. But just before he’s due back, Cynthia gets a shock. And when she goes to Portland to pour out her heart to her best friend, she has another shock. Marius is in Portland, not where he said he would be. And he’s with another woman.

It’ll take more than a good cup of coffee to get Cynthia and Marius to their happily-ever-after.

My Review:

Oh my goodness!! I LOVED this book!! It had just the right amount of drama, chase, love, and  steamy sex! A very big CONGRATULATIONS to Peggy Bird for writing a book that grabbed and held my attention from word 1, page 1!!

Cynthia is an upcoming successful glass jewelry designer, has a tight circle of friends, is making the social circuit for an artist, but has a non existent personal life outside of her girlfriends. She is overcoming a heartbreak of not feeling good enough for successful men, thanks to a jerk who dumped her to climb his own social ladder. It seems that she has figured that she will be a lonely home body and will have to learn to accept her fate.

Now enter Marius Hernandez... a successful, absurdly wealthy, amazingly HOT, and seemingly attached man that she has not one, but two chance encounters with. Marius commissioned Cynthia to design a Cleopatra collar for a lady "friend" a couple of months ago. On a night out with her girlfriends they run into Marius all alone at a table for four. They needed three seats, and he had three empty seats... perfect solution!! Chemistry between Cynthia and Marius is obvious to anyone in the room, but Cynthia is determined she will not give her heart to another man she considers on a different social tier than she is.

Marius is immediately attracted to Cynthia and has been thinking of a way to get in touch with her since meeting her when he bought the necklace from her. He sees that she is guarded and plots his plan on how to get her to open up to him and possibly go on a date.  His work is more cut out for him than he planned once he gets her alone and he knows this relationship is going to take time and effort... which he is determined to have with her. They hit it off once Cynthia lowers her guard and they spend an amazing summer traveling and loving each other.

From the start, Cynthia believes this will only be a summer fling... or so she tells her heart and tries not to invest emotionally into Marius.. which is a feat in itself! She prepares herself for the infinite goodbye that she knows will come.... but Marius has quite a different view on how they will end. He plans to travel to Central America for business and come home to Cynthia. If only she can believe him. Towards the end of his trip, Cynthia believes he is in California. She has quite a shock when she sees him at a fund raising event in Portland.... with another WOMAN!!! This is the 2nd shock of her night, so she immediately loses her temper and refuses to talk to him.

I could not help but root for Cynthia and Marius in this love story. They were a perfect match for each other and balanced one another out so well. Peggy Bird did an amazing job at describing each character to make you fall for each of them and made it difficult of who you wanted to be he "winner". I give Trusting Again 4.3 stars on the knock my socks off scale!!

Author Info:
Born in Philly, I’ve spent most of my adult life in the Pacific Northwest where I have happily grown webs between my toes and moss behind my ears. I pursued a number of careers—nurse, legislative staffer, lobbyist, public affairs consultant, non-profit association executive, workshop teacher, oh, and mother and wife—before deciding to leave it all for what I’ve loved through every stage of life—writing. I've been published in anthologies, magazines, newspapers and in the brochures, newsletters and reports of my consulting clients and employers. Unless you count speeches for politicians, I'd never written fiction until a cast of characters began inhabiting my daydreams. A glass artist and a gallery owner were there. So were a sculptor and a jewelry designer. When some dead bodies showed up, a couple of cops and a deputy DA arrived. Soon they began to fall in love with each other and work for their happy ending. Bingo. I was a romance writer.

Blog Tour: Inseparable by Missy Johnson

Check out this HOT excerpt from Missy Johnson's book, Inseparable!! Definitely on my TBR list!!

Blurb:
Nineteen year old Lily is still struggling with the death of her identical twin, Abby, a year earlier when she moves away from home for college.

Following Abby’s death, Lily spent time in a psych facility after she was still seeing, hearing and speaking to Abby as though she was still alive. Now, ready to begin college, Abby only shows up in her dreams.

A chance encounter with Dane Hansen changes Lily’s life. Lily’s friends warn her off becoming involved with Dane. He’s bad news, according to the rumors, anyway..
Now, he’s back, nearly a year after he disappeared off the face of the earth weeks into his freshman year at college. But Dane is far from the popular, womanizing, athlete he once was.

Dane has experienced loss himself, after his six year old sister was abducted and murdered nearly ten years ago. He understands Lily, and the more time he spends with her, the harder he falls.

There is something he hasn’t told her though, something almost nobody knows, and it’s something that might stop Lily from feeling the same way.

Excerpt:

His hand ran up my bare leg, lifting my thigh up onto his hip. I gasped as I felt his erection push flush up against my entrance, separated only by his pants and the thin fabric of my panties. His finger toyed with the lace edging, teasing me with his touch, his fingers threatening to dip inside me.

“I better go,” I whispered with all my resolve, when all I really wanted to do was spend the next six hours letting him explore my body. However, I also knew that if I didn’t take things slow, I would regret it. What I was feeling for Dane ran so much deeper than physical lust; the last thing I wanted was to rush into a sexual relationship too early.

“If you have to,” He mumbled, his hands caressing my face, with no intention of letting go. I kissed him again and smiled. He wasn’t making this easy.

“I do have to,” I replied, raising an eyebrow, “I had a great time tonight,” I added, meeting his gaze, my eyes reflecting the happiness in his. Kissing him again, I pulled away, knowing if I didn’t leave right this moment, I wouldn’t be able to leave at all.

Cover Reveal: Off the Record by Sawyer Bennett

Check out the cover reveal for Off the Record and Sawyer Bennett's blog post and interview with Jay Byars, cover model and former Survivor contestant.... HOTTIE alert!!!!

 By: Sawyer Bennett

It should be no surprise to any of you that “I GOT JAY BYARS FOR THE COVER OF OFF THE RECORD!” I mean, it’s not something I’ve been too quiet about over the last two weeks. And what could be any cooler than getting Jay for the cover? Well…Jay giving me an exclusive interview! Oh, yeah…beyond the heights of cool, I know!

I talked to Jay via phone, sitting up at my law office, while my staff peered through the glass door. They were excited, too! Why? I’m not sure, but it beats the doldrums of practicing law I guess.

First, let me tell you some words to describe Jay. He’s down to earth, humble and sweet. Not what you would expect from a model, right? But Jay Byars is more than just a pretty face. It’s true (and sorry if that embarrasses you, Jay…but your face is quite pretty, hence the reason you are on my book cover!)

Jay hails from Gaffney, South Carolina, an area I am very familiar with since I went to college for two years at Converse, which is just a hop, skip and a jump away from his hometown. Like a true southern man, his accent is endearing. In fact, my own southern accent started getting more of a drawl the more we talked.

After high school, Jay moved to Orlando, Florida to attend the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and he raced Motocross competitively for eight years.

Jay eventually left Orlando and moved back home to attend Limestone College where he was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. They approached Jay to put on Motocross camps for kids which in turn led him to became involved with Impact Sports. This assuaged Jay’s desire to help others. He has been on four mission trips to Brazil, China, Africa and Malaysia to use sports as a bridge to help teach the gospel in these countries. He’s also done volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and The Boys and Girls Clubs. Always on the lookout for a volunteer opportunity, Jay plans on doing further mission trips and I look forward to hearing more about his great work because volunteerism is so important to me!

What I loved most about talking to Jay was learning about his deep faith in God, a relationship that became very important to him once he moved away from home. While he and his brother attended church with their mom while growing up, it wasn’t until he moved away from home that he realized he had a void in his life. He made a conscious decision to forge a stronger relationship with God and you can tell by talking to him that this is part of what part of makes him the genuine man that he is.

Discovered by a local photographer in South Carolina, Jay concentrated on his modeling career and was ultimately signed with Major Model Management NYC. He has modeled for labels Hugo Boss, Fruit of the Loom, 2(x)ist, Belk, JosABank, Tacori Jewelry, Cadillac and now for Sawyer Bennett!

Jay and I talked about his career. He is quite the traveling man…a nomad so to speak. In 2012, he spent six months out of the year traveling across the U.S. for his modeling work, hitting up the major cities like New York, L.A., Atlanta and Dallas. He is doing more and more commercial work and his ultimate goal is to get into films. He’s taken some improv classes and hopes to make L.A. his home within the next few months. When I asked Jay if he would miss South Carolina, he said he was ready to move on but that “my family is just a plane trip away”. Currently, he keeps a bag of clothes at his mom’s house in South Carolina, and a bag at his dad’s house in Atlanta, and in between, he is very familiar with the couches of his friends’ pads in New York City and L.A.

So let’s talk about fitness! I know all of you have Googled Jay Byars, and once you did, you saw that he’s fairly *ahem* ripped. He started training at a local gym to bulk up for Survivor (we’ll talk about that later) and really clicked with the owner, Olly Pierce. They became best friends and after the show, they partnered up to open Jay Byars Fitness. Jay’s concept was to target a niche market which includes helping women to tone up for pageants and weddings, among other things. Olly pretty much runs the gym because Jay travels so much with his modeling, but he always finds time to devote to this business when he is back home in between his travels.

Survivor One World – Jay Byars
Now, as much as I loved talking to Jay about his career, I was most excited to talk to him about Survivor, because I’m a huge Survivor-Freak-Of-A-Fan. Next to The Walking Dead, it’s the only thing I watch on TV (besides my beloved Steelers, Penguins and Buckeyes). For those of you who watched Survivor One World, premiering on February 15, 2012, you may remember this was the season that brought you the antics of Colton Cumbie (misunderstood? I don’t know) and Kim Spradlin did some major ass-kicking on behalf of the female gender, winning the title of sole survivor. It was also the season that saw Jay make it to day 25, only to get voted out after he stepped down from an immunity challenge for some chicken wings. I know Jay had been asked about that probably a gazillion times and although we talked about it, what I really wanted to know was what the heck the contestants do out there with all that free time and no books to keep them busy!

Jay told me the twelve to fourteen hours of daylight with nothing to do was definitely the hardest part of the game for him. As a big outdoors person and someone that is constantly on the go, Jay said, “Watching the sun slowly come up and slowly go down, with nothing to do in between but gather firewood was incredibly difficult.” He said you didn’t want to venture out because everybody was talking about everybody else. You are in a constant state of paranoia and while you try to relax, you do nothing but think how things will play out. He said you are constantly over planning, probably over thinking but you really do nothing but “hurry up and wait”.

Going in, Jay had to determine did he want to play the game like Russel Hanz or Tom Westman (who was one of my favorite players and won Survivor: Palau). What he figured out was that once it was all said and done, “Who you are is the way you play. When you’re in that extreme environment, who you are just comes out naturally.” At the end of the day, all Jay could do was be who he was and play the game as hard as he could. Despite his demise, he played fantastically because making it to day 25 in one of the most competitively physical and mental games anywhere is quite an amazing feat.

I had to ask if Jay would go back on Survivor if asked and his one word answer? “Absolutely!”

I ended my interview with a set of fun questions for Jay, some of which my fans wanted me to ask. So here they go, in no particular order:

Do you like to read and who is your favorite author?
Jay was a creative writing major in college, so he jokingly told me that he got burned out on reading for a while. But in all seriousness, one of his favorite authors is also one of mine…C.S. Lewis. This tickled me to no end because at one point, my Amazon author ranking was right below C.S. Lewis. Now I’m sure Jay is adding Sawyer Bennett as one of his favorite authors, since we were ranking buddies in the past! Regarding Lewis’ writing, Jay said, “You can chew on one of his paragraphs for days.”

Are you dating anyone and what do you look for in a woman?
This one had my cheeks burning but Jay was a good sport. No, he is not dating anyone right now, mainly because his travel schedule isn’t exactly relationship-friendly. And while he admits he works with a lot of beautiful women, and attraction is important, he said, “I would like someone that is down to earth and I would like her to love Jesus. Someone that doesn’t take herself too seriously, who is spontaneous and has a good head on her shoulders. Someone that has a good grasp of who she is and who is comfortable in her own skin. Obviously, I would choose someone I’m physically attracted to, because that’s just nature, but I want someone that is as hot on the inside as she is on the outside.” Okay, you may sigh now!

This question was from me and I told Jay he couldn’t fool me because I was a southern girl, but I wanted to know what three things make southern men different than any other man in the world?
Jay’s answers were awesome.

First, he said it was hard to escape his southern accent, and I can tell you…Jay has one! But, as a southern girl, I can tell you it is beyond charming!

Second, he said manners are ingrained in southern men. He said, “My dad would always thump me in the back of the head if I failed to say ‘yes ma’am or no ma’am’.” And yes, ladies, he does hold to doors open for you!

Finally, Jay feels like being from the south makes you more rooted in family, which is something I can definitely relate to.

Jay received an A+ on this impromptu test, and bonus points for his dad thumping him on the back of the head. I’ve had my share of those as well when my manners slipped!

Do you have a particular role model and how do they inspire you?
Jay doesn’t have any one particular person he looks to, rather he finds inspiration from a variety of people that he has met in life. He said it could be people he works with in the industry, family members or maybe it is a pastor that has influenced him.

Jay said, “I try to pick qualities and attributes that I admire and figure out how I can apply them in my life.”

This question was awesome and came from a fan. Is this your first book cover and how do you feel to be on the front of a book where thousands of women may ogle you? (Yes, I used the word ‘ogle’ and thankfully Jay laughed at my word choice).
“I was in the middle of a shoot when I got an email about the cover, and I was like wow…how did they find me? I feel extremely blessed and yes, this is my first cover. I’m really excited about it and can’t wait for it to come out.” Jay told me that he is still trying to get used to being in the public eye and that he hopes, “I never get too big for my britches”. (Love that southern saying!)

Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
Jay hopes to be doing consistent work in movies although he doesn’t feel he is done with Motocross. He would one day like to be secure enough that he could start an extreme sports camp for kids.

Quick Question and Answer.
Me: “Dogs or Cats?”
Jay: “Dogs.”
Me: *who loves all things that are furry and bark* “Do you have a dog?”
Jay: “Not technically but I’ve claimed one as mine. She’s a Boxer.”
Me: *admiration points for Jay just went up by about a million*

Me: “Health food or junk food?”
Jay: “Health food.” *with no hesitation*
Me: *glad I was munching on kale chips the previous night but guilty I was eyeing the Dunkin’ Donuts that someone brought into the office that morning*
Me: “Action or drama movies?”
Jay: “Um…mixture.”
Me: “Tuxedo or t-shirt and jeans?”
Jay: “Did you say Speedo?”
Me: *laughing hysterically* “Um…no…Tux-eee-doh!”
Jay: *laughing, thankfully, and not hanging up on me* “Definitely t-shirt and jeans anyday!”
Me: “Baseball cap or beanie?”
Jay: “Beanie.”

Me: “Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?”
Jay: “That’s a hard one. I hate cold weather.”

Me: “Phillip Sheppard or Brandon Hanz?”
Jay: *no hesitation* “Phillip Sheppard. In fact, I was walking the streets of Santa Monica last week and ran into Phillip and got to meet him.”
Me: “So did we see the real Phillip Sheppard on TV?”
Jay: “No, I don’t believe so. He seemed a lot more normal to me than he did on TV.”

Our interview wrapped up and we said our goodbyes. All I can say is that I am beyond thrilled with the way the cover turned out. When you are reading Off The Record, you will see that I described Linc Caldwell as an exact physical duplicate of Jay. But it’s amazing how eerily similar their personalities are, and you have to remember, I wrote Linc’s character well before I talked to Jay.

What I came away with from this interview is that yes, Jay Byars is more than just a pretty face. He has tremendous depth of character and I expect he will be a shining star in his career. I hope one day I can get him on another cover! Maybe a character who races Motocross?

Take a moment and check out these two organizations that are extremely important to Jay. Impact Sports and the International Justice Mission. I’ve combed both of these sites and their work is amazing!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Jay for being my muse, giving me the best possible book cover a girl could want, and for an amazing conversation. If you want to tell Jay how much you liked the cover, you can tweet him @_jaybyars.

And now…please enjoy the cover of Off The Record.
