He lowered his head, his lips like the softest suede against her mouth. His tongue licked at her, insistent, persuasive. She opened for him, surrendered to him.
Slowly, he released her wrist, stretching her arm above her head. He did the same with her other arm, holding her there with his hot, strong fingers. With his free hand, his fingers skimmed over the tee and boxer shorts she’d worn to bed, touching her, heating her skin. Fingertips inched up the fabric, caressing her softly.
Her hips rolled forward when he reached the edge of her shorts. He smiled, flashing a monstrous set of fangs at her as he did, and dipped a finger below the elastic waist. Bryn’s whole body was alive, buzzing with so much energy she expected to see little sparks flying off her skin. Korvain purred his approval and, without releasing her wrists, climbed on top of her.
She opened up her legs to him, welcoming his weight, relishing in the touch of his body. Cradling him with her hips, she melted under him, taking him into her body like he was designed for her and her alone. Korvain released her arms, his free hand burrowing under her shirt like he needed to feel her skin.
She grabbed his thick biceps, squeezing that muscled heat. His massive shoulders moved with his deep, hungry breaths as he stared down at her. With his elbows pressed into the mattress, supporting his massive weight, he purred down into her ear. The vibration went all the way through her.
She reached out to touch his face, running her fingers along his jaw, along his bottom lip. Her eyes slid shut when his mouth crashed into hers…
My Review:
If you love Greek mythology or mythology of any kind, then Dark Deceit is a MUST read!!! I literally devoured this book in a couple of hours! I was intrigued by the basis of the story line, the characters, and the action packed angst that Lauren Dawes told in this book!
Dark Deceit brings some very familiar characters from other books/movies... Loki, Odin Valkyries, etc..... but with a significant twist to the background of these characters and their lives. I love how the story unfolded from way back when it first started to the present day. I can't wait to read book 2 in the Dark series and see where these beloved characters end up.
Korvain is sent on a mission... kill Bryn so his boss can kill Odin. However many obstacles get in the way of that mission including plans of others, love, and an instant zing between the killer and the supposed victim. Korvain is a tough, manly man that has never failed on a mission... will he be able to pull this one off or will his selfish desires overtake him and end up with him falling in love or in bed with his target?????
I give Dark Deceit 5 stars on the knock my socks off scale!! I love how Lauren Dawes sucked me in from word 1, page 1 and maintained my attention through the last page! Kudos to the author for writing an amazingly well written story that had me invested from the cover!

Lauren Dawes is an urban fantasy/paranormal romance writer and the author of the Half Blood Series and the Dark Series. You won’t find any friendly vampires or werewolves in between the pages of her books; just blood, teeth and violence. When she’s not writing, she’s reading or teaching. Sometimes outward appearances do not always represent reality…

Eyes dark, he looks right at me. It’s unnerving, but I refuse to look away. “Tori, I don’t want you to see him again.” His voice is rigid and sends shards of anger through me.
I bite back hurtful words. I like our newfound friendship, but he’s pushing it. “Brady, I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear you say that.”
“He’s dangerous!”
“Funny.” I half laugh. “That’s what he says about you.”
His chair squeaks when he slides it out from under the table and stands up. He comes over to stand close beside me. I can already sense the heightened charge in the air with his nearness. “What did he tell you?” His tone is bitter.
“Nothing specific. You want to tell me what’s going on between the two of you?”
He pushes off the counter and pinches the bridge of his nose again. “I can’t.”
“Why not?” I ask, urging him to explain.
“I just can’t,” he answers, and his body is suddenly close to me, caging me in. His hands are on each side of me, gripping the counter, and I have no choice but to look into the depths of his green eyes. His hard warm body brushes against my breast and I let out a small whimper. “He’s wrong for you, and I don’t want him touching you,” he says brutally, his words hitting my gut like a brick.

K J Bell grew up in California and has spent the last eight years living in Massachusetts with her husband and three children.
After years of working in the corporate world, she took on her most rewarding job as a full time mom.
People often ask, what made her decide to write? And the answer is…she didn’t. Writing found her. She was inspired to write when her daughter innocently waved at people in an empty cemetery, but didn’t know where to begin. After years of debating, she finally put fingers to keys bringing her first novel, a paranormal romance titled The Locket, to life.
